Peony

The peony is one of the most beloved perennials in American gardens, prized for its enormous, fragrant blooms each spring. Unlike most garden flowers, peonies are remarkably long-lived — a single plant can bloom in the same spot for 50 to 100 years, often outliving the gardener who planted it. The University of Michigan's Nichols Arboretum is home to one of the largest peony collections in North America, drawing visitors each Memorial Day season when the garden reaches full bloom.
