Michigan Wildflowers

Trillium

Latin name: Trillium grandiflorum
Bloom time: Late April to early June, depending on location and elevation

Trillium is one of Michigan's most beloved and recognizable spring wildflowers. Known for its distinct set of three leaves and three petals, this spring ephemeral is found in the rich woodland soil and is one of the state’s most protected plants and was designated the official state wildflower of Michigan in 1998. Trillium is an example of a spring ephemeral - blooming and setting seed before the tree canopy fully leafs out and blocks the sun. While most flowers set seed and return year after year, it can take five to ten years for Trillium to grow.

This hand-drawn colored pencil illustration celebrates the Great White Trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) in all its quiet, three-petaled elegance. Available as a downloadable fine art digital print, matte sticker, and A2 notecard set — perfect for nature lovers, wildflower enthusiasts, and anyone who loves a little of the Michigan woods and nature.
